With my daughter starting Kindergarten this year, I’m really worried about whats going into her mouth at school.  I think I will be packing her lunch everyday, but I also need to pack a healthy snacke for her to have at snack time. Plus if she wants a snack at home. 800-245 is a long day, its always good to have something waiting for them at home.

Frito Lays has put some tips and healthy recipes together to help with back to school.

Tips:

  1. sneak in the whole grains-Sunchips Multigrain has 18 G of whole grains, and Tostitos scoops have 8 G of whole grain
  2. Jazz Up Your Fruit- cut fruit into shapes, use cookie cutters or come up with themes.
  3. Dip It-pair fruit up with yogurt or your favorite chips with hummus.

Mediterranean Dip

  • 1 cup frozen corn, thawed
  • ½ cup roasted red peppers, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • Salt to taste

Directions-mix corn, chopped peppers, and balsamic vinegar together in a small bowl. refrigerate for 30 min, or longer if you’d like.

Baked Bean Dip

  • 1 slice of bacon
  • 1 15 oz can baked beans
  • 1 tablespoon grape jelly

Directions-Cook bacon in large skillet until crisp. Remove bacon, crumble and set aside. Drain bacon grease but do not wipe out pan. Add can of baked beans (including sauce.) Bring to a boil. Stir in grape jelly and reduce heat. Simmer until liquid is reduced by half. Mash beans with a fork or potato masher and allow liquid to be absorbed.

Just for you Frito Lays is giving one lucky reader

  1. I try not to have a sandwich every day. My daughter loves roll-ups of turkey and cheese. Maybe I’ll add some hummus this week to see how that goes.

  2. I try to give my son a variety of lunches, not the same thing every day,,although he could eat hotdogs and pizzas every day!! I always try to sneak some fruit in!

  3. Add some canned chili w/o beans and shredded cheese on top of the fritos microwave for 20 seconds and you have a great snack.

  4. will eat veggies like carrots, broccoli, and tomatoes with a dip like dressing, spinach dip, or hummus, great way to get those veggies in

  5. When my kids were going to school I had to make sure I sent them with what they liked and on a budget ,so I made sure they had fresh fruit, a sandwich and pudding was a hit!
Snacks ,crackers and cheese and I bought in bulk
    Thanks

  6. Whenever I want a snack, I always try to have fruit. If that’s not possible, then I will simply have cereal (without any milk) alone as snack.

  7. Make vegetable bowls and fruit bowls and store them in the refrigerator! To snack on and keep the chips on the table! First choice chips for me! ha!

  8. I have found making snack time fun for my son really works, such as making ants on a log (celery with peanut butter and raisins on top) and cutting sandwiches or cheese with cookie cutters.

  9. I love snacking on some hummas and baby carrots. You get your fiber and it curbs my hunger in the afternoon too.

  10. I love snacking hummas and baby carrots. It curbs my hunger in the afternoon and provides fiber in my diet.

  11. I make snacks into fun shapes like cheese into circles or triangles and apple slices into squares things like that!

  12. My tip is to make snacks just big enough to fit in snack sized baggies and you can decorate the baggie with markers. ….Tiffypoot @ (aol.com)

  13. we love to make Chirmol, which is like homemade salsa… we take some tomatoes and boil them and then remove the skins. Then we smush them up and add fresh cilantro and onions. If you want spice, add a bit of jalapeno, and don’t forget to add a little lime juice too. We love to eat it with Tostitos Scoops, so yummy!
