Today I am try grateful, March 31, 1994 at the age of 9 I was released from the hospital. On Feb. 19 of that year I was hit by a car and almost lost my life. I had a stroke on my right side (which affected my left side), a ripped ear, 18 fractures in my skull, broken bones in my right arm, amoung other things. I was in a coma for 2 weeks and had to have a lumbar shunt installed, which drains the fluid from my head. My parents were told I had a 80% chance of not surviving that day.
That was probably the hardest thing I have ever gone through, because of my injuries I had to learn how to walk again, learn to talk again and sign since I had trouble talking.
Even though that was 19 years ago, I am still affected by my injuries.I still have the lumbar shunt, I still have bumps all over my head (fractures never healed right), I suffer from severe headaches, and i still do not have full control of my left side.
So today the day I walked out of the hospital, I am very thankful for my life.
Glad you survived and are mostly okay. I can’t imagine how hard that had to have been for you and your family.
I bet your parents and family are forever grateful you made it through everything- and I am glad things are so much better for you this day than 19 years ago! May you continue to improve!
