Thanksgiving is not that far away and I have already started thinking about what I am going to cook. I have had plenty of disasters on Thanksgiving, so this year I want to be prepared for everything.

I recently came upon a new app to help with all your cooking needs and more. The Butterball Cookbook Plus App! The app is your source for great tasting recipes and ideas to make mealtime so much fun.

Every month new recipes will be added to the app at no charge. I love this app, it has made me understand why I’ve had meals turn out really bad.  I will definitely be on my game this year with cooking.

I have had a some good Family meals too. Some of my tips for preparing a  great Holiday Meal.

  1. Don’t be afraid to ask for help or look something up: I am constantly asking my mom how to make things or looking up recipes on the web. It makes life so much easier.
  2. Make sure you have enough food:  You should typically choose a turkey by alb per person and it never hurts to have left overs.
  3. Thaw Your Turkey: Be sure to thaw your turkey out in advance, for best results. This is one of my past disasters.

To help you prepare for your Thanksgiving this year: Butterball is giving away a Turkey gift check for a  free Turkey (up to $20.00)!

  1. My best adice is plan early and if possible precook as much as you can- that way you aren’t spending time out in the kitchen instead with family and friends!

  2. Keep your turkey moist by roasting it, make sure it is fully cooked and prepare as much as possible ahead of time.

  3. I like to peel my potatoes the night before and let them in cool water overnight, bake the cornbread and pies in advance, let other bring a side dish and sit back and relax

  4. I would say to cook ahead mash potatoes , pies, and other side dishes that can be reheated on the microwave ,defrost the turkey with plenty of time, and cook thoroughly using a food thermometer to check the correct temperature of the turkey.

  5. One thing I learned over the years, is that you almost can’t screw up a turkey if you use a turkey bag! So cheap and easy and works fantastic!

  11. I like to make all the side dishes the day before Thanksgiving. I can pop them out of the frig and warm them just before dinner. I only have the turkey to prepare and roast on the big day. Enjoy the holiday!

  12. Use the drippings from the turkey to keep re-wetting it every 20 minutes. The turkey is a lot more moist that way.
