My family and I were invited to a screening of Disney’s Planes before it opened in theaters. It got off to a rocky start as the movie kept malfunctioning, but once it started my kids were very excited.
Planes is about a crop duster who wants to be a racer, the only problem is he is afraid of heights. Through his training he is mentored by a old fighter pilot, as well as a gas truck and forklift. His dream is to win the Wings Around the Globe race.
My son who is a big cars fan loved this movie, the bright colors and characters are enough to keep young children’s attention focused. It was a very good movie with a few parts that could scare a small child like a 10 second plane fighting scene. Planes has a lot of charcters you will remember from Cars and Cars 2, like Brent Mustangburger, the Sushi Chefs, and the tractors.
I couldn’t help but feel a lot of similarities to Cars and Cars 2. There is the rookie taking lessons from a mentor, Lightning McQueen with Doc Hudson and in Planes Dusty with Skipper. Propwash Junction is a small town not on the map, just like in Cars. The race around the world, and more.
It is a good movie though for the smaller crowd. I will be taking my son to see the movie again, since he liked it so much.
Disney’s Planes” is an action-packed 3D animated comedy adventure featuring Dusty (voice of Dane Cook), a plane with dreams of competing as a high-flying air racer. But Dusty’s not exactly built for racing—and he happens to be afraid of heights. So he turns to a seasoned naval aviator who helps Dusty qualify to take on the defending champ of the race circuit. Dusty’s courage is put to the ultimate test as he aims to reach heights he never dreamed possible, giving a spellbound world the inspiration to soar.
