We always have Thanksgiving at home, as we don’t have any family really close. It’s better for us as we get to choose what to make. Every Thanksgiving we usually do a medley of different foods, my kids are really really picky.

This year we are having a prime rib roast, as well as a Hormel Cure 81 Ham. Then of course all the trimmings, potatoes, veggies etc. I love having a small ham every year, because leftovers go great with breakfasts.

Hormel Cure 81 hams come in all different sizes, we usually just get 1 lb or 2. The ham comes pre-sliced and makes it so much easier to serve.

Skippy peanut butter is now a part of the Hormel brand, and are coming out with new options like the Chocolate peanut butter. My daughter loves it on a peanut butter and jelly. Her favorite food to put it on is Waffles. Every morning for the past week, she has been eating waffles with chocolate peanut butter.

I am going through a jar of peanut butter a week, but I just can’t help the smile it brings to her face. Plus the biggest upside is she is actually eating (she is very picky).

What is your favorite way to use peanut butter?

Halloween is tomorrow and when I was making dinner I was looking at all the ingredients and thought this would make a good pumpkin face.

SO I LET MY KIDS PLAY WITH THEIR FOOD!

So gave my kids a bunch of ingredients and let them have fun. I was making Cactus salad and pizza. Hormel Pepperoni and Dona Marie Tender cactus were used to make the fun faces.

My kids and I love quesadillas, but I have never made them at home. I finally decided to try and they turned out really well.

I used Chi Chi’s Fajita Tortillas
Monterey Jack Cheese
Sliced Cooked chicken

I made just cheese and some with chicken.

The recipe is very simple just put a tortilla on skillet on medium heat
add toppings Cheese
wait for it to start to melt.
You can either fold it over or place another tortilla on top. I used another Tortilla.
Wait a few minutes and then flip over with a spatula.
Cook another few minutes when cheese is melted.
Cut and serve.

My daughter absolutely loved these and suggested I start making the meal more, as part of out taco night.

Have you ever made quesadilla’s at home?

Grilling With Hormel #HormelFamily

Fall is finally here, even though the warm weather is gone it’s still a good time to get outside and grill. Besides the beautiful weather I get to cook outside and lessen dishes in the sink. I love grilling different foods, It makes the meat so much more tender and juicy.

One of my favorite meals to grill any season is pork tenderloin. Hormel has their Always Tender Pork Tenderloin meat available in different varieties. I have tried them all and they are so good. My favorites are apple bourbon and teriyaki.

Johnny Rockets Gives That Old School Feeling

When I attended Blogger Bash in NYC a few months ago, I was honored with getting to meet with one of the sponsors Johnny Rockets. They even provided us with Milk Shakes to make our own at the conference.
It was a great experience and we love Johnny Rockets, so my kids were super excited to hear that we would be eating their soon. They love their food and atmosphere.
We have two local Johnny Rockets here in Long Island. One is in a shopping mall and a bit informal, the other is in a outlet center and is a actual sit down restaurant.

The restaurant is very small, but the setting makes you feel at home.
When we visited we were welcomed right away and seated immediately.
The food is a basic american restaurant, they have hamburgers, sandwiches, salads etc. They are world famous for their milk shakes though, they are the best.

We just ordered hamburgers Fries and a drink. It was so delicious, It’s one of the few fast food restaurants that actually puts mayo on a burger instead of ketchup. While we were eating the jukebox was blasting and a old song came on “Just A Little Bit” and we were Delighted with the waitresses dancing and singing along. My kids just thought it was the funniest thing.

September 15 to October 15 is Spanish Heritage month. We are not hispanic but I have a lot of family members that are, and love the culture. I grew up in Phoenix AZ and eating Mexican food was common to us.

To celebrate we decided to have a fun taco night, with a few specialties. It wasn’t truly authentic, but my kids are so picky so I had to give and take a few things.

IMG_1041

IMG_1042

We celebrated with homemade tacos and burritos as well as ChChi’s chips and Wholly Guacamole for a dip. This was the first time my kids have ever tried Guacamole, but the seemed to like it as they ate a bunch.

We also had a bowl of Hertz salsa for my youngest, who preferred salsa over guacamole. We love Hertz because the salsa is a lot less chunky. My son prefers just to get a small amount on his chip and not have big chunks of vegetables.

ChChi brands, Wholly Guacamole and Hertz are part of the Hormel Foods Brands, to learn more please visit Hormel Foods.

We are on the run constantly, with 3 kids and a husband in grad school I rarely get to sit down for breakfast with my kids. When the kids are eating breakfast I am making lunches and packing backpacks.
Hormel Completes offers breakfast wherever you are, all you need is a microwave. Most offices and workplaces have them, so you can have breakfast before your shift. Hormel Completes come in 4 varieties:

Bacon breakfast scramble
Sausage breakfast scramble
Sausage gravy and roasted potatoes
Apple cinnamon oatmeal

I love the Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal, because it is sweet and very simple. I can pack it for my husband to eat when he gets to the lab, or I can sneak it in when I get to the office after taking the kids to school.

Today is National Peanut Day

Today is National Peanut Day. It’s a special day for everyone who loves peanuts and peanut butter to break out the celery and Skippy’s singles for one good snack.

My kids love peanut butter, but can’t have it at school due to other children’s allergies. When they get home they are aways asking for a snack before homework. I give them a few choices and one of them is celery or carrots with a single peanut butter cup. Or if they didn’t get to finish their lunch a PB and J sandwich with Chocolate Peanut Butter.

PICT0022

The funny thing is this is a healthy snack but my kids will only eat the celery and carrots, if they have the peanut butter. They will never eat them plain or cooked or anything else.
