Slow Clean Up After #HurricaneSandy

Everything is pretty much back to normal here on Long Island, we have power and gas lines are gone. Unfortunately the one thing here in my city that reminds everyone everyday how strong Sandy was is……

Down trees and brush at the end of driveways.

A lot of trees came down with Hurrican Sandy and I mean a lot. Even trees that have been standing for over 60 years. The big trees brought up the earth and even parts of the road.

This is the bottom of a downed tree, there is a big whole in the ground now.

The same tree from a side view.

Another bottom of a tree

It’s hard to get through small roads around here, because people have set their down their brush and branches, tree stumps etc. 3 weeks after Sandy ad they are still at the end of driveways. It has become a hazard for cars and pedestrians.

a down tree not touched

Tree stumps and brush sitting on side of the road.

Brush blocking the entire lane of a road.

Most of the natural landscape and small parks, just have trees laying everywhere. They have not been moved at all for the safety of anyone.

Update: #HurricaneSandy

I just wanted to thank everyone for thinking about us and keeping us n your thoughts. We are now on day 12 of no power, but they said by tomorrow and Tuesday at the latest. I am not holding my breath, since last week they said Wednesday.

Right now we are staying in housing provided by my husbands work, but will be going back home tomorrow power or not.

I will be getting back to posting regular and picking very over due winners when I get my power back.

Update: 11/5/12 #hurricaneSandy

I just wanted to update everyone really quick. We still have no power after 7 days. Can you believe that 7 days.  No electric companies have even been on our side street to fix the powerlines that are down.

School has been canceled at the elementary school again today and tomorrow.  Conditions are just not stable enough for buses and only the school we attend still does not have power.  It’s really frustrating.

Luckily we are staying in a cabin provided by my husbands work. Hopefully when the Nor’ Easter hits on Wednesday we don’t lose power here again.

I will hopefully get back to regular posting this week.

Update: 11/1/12 #HurricaneSandy

We are in day 4 with no power, yet everyone around us has power. I mean literally the house next door, the gas station across the street and 7-11 on the other side of me.   We are on the power line associated with the downed street light. Hopefully we will get power today.

We have been living in the old days here. LOL!  We did all of our laundry by hand, and they are hanging around the house. We have been using out grill to heat water and been eating pretty much sandwiches.

All of the food we hd left in our fridge and freezer has been tarnished and thrown away, so we decided to use that as a reason to deep clean the refrigerator.  This storm has really kicked our asses.

I got a Haircut

I know it’s not the most exciting news in the world, but I finaly decided to give in todaya nd get a haircut. I haven’t had one in 2 years and my hair has been so long I’ve had it in a bun for months.

I chopped off 5 1/2 inches

This is not the best bfore pic as I had my hair in a side ponytail.

But keep in mind my hair was to my butt.

After:

It’ll take some getting use to, but I feel a lot lighter. LOL

Not Having Someone Who Supports what you do.

I love blogging, It is a way for me to express myself, and share things with family and friends. I’ll be the first to admit, I don’t have a lot of friends outside of the internet.
I tend to stay inside a lot and be with my kids. I don’t have money for a nanny, or babysitter. So I just do with what I have.
I started blogging about 3 1/2 years ago, and it started as just a blog about life with 3 small kids and a husband over seas. Then it turned into a business as companies were pitching me for advertising, products etc. I accepted, and it took up a lot of my time.

While I do not make even close to what other bloggers make a month, I still enjoy what I do. I do not have the support of my husband though. He thinks I spend way to much time on the computer and make close to $1 a hour.

I would love to prove him wrong, the problem being he is in school so the more money I make the less he makes. To be honest we don’t make much, enough to live.

I would love to be able to redesign my blog, learn how to do more monetizing and get more stats. That is on my to do list for the next year.
Hopefully then I will get support from others.

Thinking About Adding A Bike In Our Life

This year my schedule has been crazy. My son started preschool and they don’t offer a bus, so I have to take him everyday.   We only have one car, so now I am a chauffeur for everyone.  My schedule day to day:

  • Get daughters on the bus
  • take hubby to work
  • take son to preschool
  • Pick daughters up from school
  • PIck son up
  • pick hubby up

Everyday and nothing is close, I am driving 30+ miles a day. It is exhausting, but I do have a few hours to myself in between dropping off and picking up.

So I am thinking about getting a bike for hubby. Like a mountain bike or something. His work is only 3 1/2 miles away. Thats doable on a bike right?

There is the option of getting another car, but we could never afford it, not until my hubby graduates. Unless my blog takes off. LOL

So now my time off is spent trying to find the perfect bicycle. One that is sturdy and will last but not to expensive.

Am I crazy for making my hubby take a bike?

Hilarious Prank

We were waiting out side for the bus this morning and, saw all this white stuff flying in the air. We thought it was a bunch of trash and the kids were so amused by it.
They kept saying look at it going high in the air.

after a few minutes I realized that it wasn’t trash it was suds/bubbles. See we have this beautiful waterfall across the street from our house. See the pic below my son posing with it.

So I had to go check out where all these suds were coming from and this is what I found

I don’t know if it was a prank or just an accident, but it’s hilarious.
