my husband is going to school right now to get his undergraduate degree, then he wants to move on to a phd. we get help from the government with tuition. we also get the gi bill fo rhim derving in the military and iraq. besides all that he is getting his listings of books for the summer and next fall. now granted books are exspensive, but for a biochemistry book he needs. they want 191 new and 163 used. thats rediculous. after the thousands that get shelled out for tuition to cough up that much for one book. all i have to say is thank goodness for independant sellers on ebay, amazon and alibris. i found it new for 113 which is a great deal. i honestly think though that that may be a reason people drop out of college. we need 5-6 more chemistry books for next semester. none of them are going to be under 100 bucks. so you figure if you take 9 or ten classes your paying $5000 or more a semester plus over a $1000 in books.
no wonder people aren’t spending alot of money right now. they are in a butt load of debt from trying to get a good education. so they save to pay it off. it’s crazy

potty training madness
We are in the process of potty training both my daughters. I have a 3 year old and almost 2 yr old. I feel as if i’m failing as a parent in this area. Now my almost 2 yr old still really doesn’t understand, but my 3 year old is getting it. She did really good for a long time and then refused to even go in the bathroom. Now it’s like a game, they try and get in the toilet water, pull toilet paper off the roll etc. it’s a nightmare. With my nieces and nephew we just put them in underwear and they learned fast.
I’d like to try that but my husband refuses, says he doesn’t want to clean up the floor every hour. Personally I don’t care if my daughter isn’t potty trained. Every child needs time and develops different.
It’s the litte remarks I get and people bragging about how well their child is doing that makes me feel pressured. I just hope it happens soon cause the cost of pullups is killing me, not to mention diapers for my infant son.
Ack, yes I have 3 in diapers. It’s been hard and they even fight over who gets changed first, but I love them at this age.
** Update the best method that worked for us is taking your child to the bathroom with you and letting them sit on the small potty. They learn from you.
mckenzie birthday
yesterday was baby girls 3rd birthday. we celebrated by going to Greensboro. They have Toys r us Chuck E Cheese and a better mall than the town we live in. It was a lot of fun. she kept begging to go see the chuck e cheese mouse puppet that sings. So when we took her up there she started screaming she got so scared. we played games and ate pizza. She got so much stuff. mainly barbies. she is really into barbie and the island princess. She has every character except, the pink maiden, purple maiden and the kellys with the elephants.
how we named our children
This is how we named our children. With my two girls we wanted to come up with names that were not that common and had a link to our Scottish german heritage. we came up with McKenzie and Alexandra. Even though they are common now they were not at that time, middle names were chosen after a great grandmother on each of our sides. With my son we wanted something from our heritage again. but we wanted a good strong name that has stood the test of time. we came up with William, middle name was named after his daddy. My husband is a third generation so we didn’t want to name him the fourth but still carried on the name. McKenzie Christine Alexandra Dorothy and William Jack.
It’s amazing how many unique and different names there are in this world, so many heritages and everything else.
Cute Story
I had said in my earlier post we went to the zoo on the 11, well we got up close to the Gorillas. There was glass there of course, but one kept nudging towards my stroller. I took my three month old son out, I figured she wanted to see the baby. She opened her legs and put some straw together for a nest. It was so cute, she wanted to take care of my baby.
m with a gorilla. so funny.
Easter
Easter was kind of a wierd one. My husbands birthday was on Easter this year. (which makes him so proud) the last time it was on the 23 was 1913 and the next time will be my husbands 246 birthday. He did all this research about it.
I made a big dinner for all his family, well the ones that came. Then followed by a cake, it was so stressful on me and me and my husband decided no more family get togethers unless he is out on vacation. Good for me! Our spring break was the week before and we went and had family portraits done something I have been begging for forever. My husband hates pictures. They came out really good though. I’ll try posting one later it won’t let me right now. We went to the zoo, which i really liked the gorillas came up close to us. They are older females and take to kids so they wanted to come see our kids. That was about it. So it was a fun 2 weeks for me.
How do you spend time with your family on Easter? Do you do baskets for the kids? Go to Church? Big Dinner?
brag time
The Parent Bloggers www.blog.parentbloggers.com want me to brag about my kids today. my kids have a lot of strenghths, but on the same note they also have weeknesses. i would love to read a book called child strengths by Jennifer Fox and learn how to discover more of their strengths. go check out her website to learn more about the book http://www.jeniferfox.com
i have three children. My son is only two months old so obviously I can’t really see much in him. he is a very healthy and happy baby though. constantly smiling. My oldest daughter is 2 years old, she’ll be three in april. she’s going to have success in so many things. she loves to sing and dance. she knows her abcs and can count to 20. she can say our last name perfectly. I can’t tell you how big of an accomplishment that is. adults can never get it right. Walleshauser! She is a scientist right now she knows all about molecules and astronomy. she makes the family stuff to eat all the time. It’s made out of toys and crayons, but it’s the thought that counts shes on her way. one thing i’m so proud of is her ability to learn things so fast. I’m 23 and know like 5 words in spanish. My daughter watches Dora and Diego. now she runs around the house speaking Spanish.
My middle daughter is 21 months old. She can do most of what her sister can do. her abcs, can count to 15. she is our character comedien. She goes around singing songs. Her favorites are the Wonder Pets and Elmo songs. She can make people laugh in an instant just by making faces or putting on a show with her toys. My kids are really young and i know that i will discover much more of their strengths over time, but I’am so proud of them for what they’ve been able to show me so far.
