Brooklyn Grange Farm #Backtonaturemac

I recently was invited to visit the Brooklyn Grange Farm. When I first heard about Rooftop farm I thought, okay a bunch of plants in pots on a roof. I was totally wrong, they actually turned the whole roof into a farm. They mainly grow vegetables and the only animals they have are chickens, but it was really cool.

There is also a beautiful view from the farm.

I brought my kids along for the fun and was so impressed, they were trying all kinds of veggies.  They tried two different types of Kale, cucumbers tomatoes and so much more.

They also served us dinner, and since the event was held by Back To Nature we got to try their yummy Crazy Bugs macaroni.

Summer Reading With Scholastic Books

School is out and summer is here, which mean kids are not thinking about learning but having fun.  It’s important to keep kids involved with learning and staying on top by reading everyday.

We love to read and are alway on the lookout for new books. Now that my daughter is 7 she is starting to read series and chapter books.

We were sent 2 different series of books from scholastic and my kids just loved them.

We received two books from the fly Guy Series:

Ride Fly Guy Ride and Fly Guy vs. The Fly Swatter (ages4-7)

We love the Fly guy series because it’s easy to read and the Fly Guy just goes on crazy adventures. It is a chapter book, but most books only have 5 chapters and about 30 pages. It’s a very smile book even my 6-year-old is reading them with no problems.

We also received the Scholastic discover more series:

Discover more: Ocean and Sea (ages 8+)

Discover More: Planets (5-7)

My kids have been really interested in our planet and everything on it. The Ocean and Sea book is very informative talking about the oceans and what inside them, how they form, life in the ocean, Tsunamis, threats and more.  My kids really loved the pictures most of all, they are close up of animals and oceans, not leaving out any detail.

The planets book lists all the planets and what they are made of, or have. It also talks about all of our discoveries through space like the first man on the moon and the Mars rover. The book even cover timeline of events so it’s not to confusing when the planets were discovered or when an event happened. It even mentions galaxies, stars and even aliens, in case there is life on other planets.

both of the Discover More books, have a free digital book.

My kids have already read through all these books but insist that they will ke reading them over and over, and even continue our collection.

You can order these books on scholastic or pick them up at any bookstore.

Don’t forget to log your minutes in the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge.

New ParaNorman Assets

ParaNorma hits theaters Aug. 17, 2012, it is the must see Stop motion film.

here are some new facts abut the movie

  • ParaNorman is the first stop-motion movie to utilize a 3D Color Printer to create replacement faces for its puppets. Over 31,000 individual face parts were printed for the production.
  •  It takes at least 3-4 months to craft a new puppet from start to finish, not including design or testing time. Once a character has been created in its finished form for the first time, the multiples of that puppet can be fashioned faster. It took 60 puppet makers to create 178 individual puppets for ParaNorman…including, for Norman himself, 28 individual full body puppets. Thanks to the face replacements created by the 3D Color Printer, Norman has about 8,800 faces with a range of individual pieces of brows and mouths. Being a “man of 8,800 faces” meant that he could have approximately 1.5 million possible facial expressions.
  • There are 275 spikes in Norman’s signature hair style. His hair was primarily made out of goat hair held together with hot glue, hair gel, fabric, and super glue – as well as medical adhesive, Pros-Aide make-up adhesive, thread, and wire. Once built, it was hand-finished with paint and human hair dye.
  • The bathroom sequence, when Norman is contacted by the ghost of Mr. Prenderghast, took 1 year to shoot.

Finding the Right Animal with Gundimals

I always had pets growing up and  a lot of them. Now that I am married with kids, I prefer not having pets. It’s just to much living in apartments and having such small children.

My kids have been asking for a  pet, but we just can’t do it right now so we have been having our kids pick out stuff animals to chose as their pets. Now I know they can’t take the place of a actual animal, but they still love them.

They have even asked for exotic animals like tigers and elephants, so we have made it a routine that every time we visit a new zoo we pick out animals from the gift shop. We have been getting a lot. we have penguins, elephants, tigers, monkeys, polar bears and more.

our schedule has been so hectic that we haven’t made it out of town to visit a new zoo, so Gundimals have sent us a few cute little furry friends. I can’t believe how much these actually look realistic. It’s amazing! and they are so soft and cuddly.

You can find Gundimals at retailers nationwide for $10-$24

Get Your Kids Outside With Backyard Safari

We have been big fans of Backyard Safari, since we were introduced to them a few years ago. We have so many products to help us enjoy the outdoors like the walking stick, tent, bug zapper, and more.

We were jus introduced to two more products that will make outside play even more fun.

Field Canteen:

This is so convenient, my kids always want to take a water bottle outside when they play. The Canteen lets them have water outside and I don’t have to worry about them losing the lid to the bottle. The canteen comes with a no lose cap bank and an adjustable shoulder strap.

Animal Caller:

You can call five different animals with the animal caller. The animal calls are a grizzly bear, cougar, gray wolf, American Eagle and loon. This toy has been a blast. My kids run around the backyard with the animal sounds going and pretend they are hunting or on an animal safari. Whenever they hear the bear they run and hide.

You can find both of these products on Amazon and retailers nationwide. To see all the Backyard Safari Toys visit their website.
