Udi’s 14 Day Challenge

I always try to eat healthy, but sometimes my emotions get the best of me, and I give in to the unhealthy food.

So when I was approached about doing the 2 week Udi Gluten Free Challenge, I said yes. Eating Gluten free for 2 weeks sounded so easy to me as I don’t eat a lot of Gluten or dairy products anyway.

I started out with the meal plan they had provided

Breakfast: Egg whites for breakfast

Lunch: Chicken and salad

Snack: Trail mix

Dinner: Gluten Free Pizza

Every day the meal would change and by day 3 I was feeling great and then………..  Hurricane Sandy came and my whole diet and challenge was thrown out the window. We had no power, so i couldn’t cook and I was mainly just eating dry cereal, trail mix and sandwiches. My emotions got the best of me and it has been a big challenge.

Now that I have had my power back for 3 weeks I started the challenge again. It has been really tough as we are still getting thing s back to normal, but I have felt great and even lost 5 pounds (even though 4 came back when i stopped).

Some of my favorite Udi’s products through the challenge have been the Blueberry and Chocolate Muffin tops, and the Vanilla Granola.

I have felt better and overall just felt healthier during the challenge.

Great New Books For Christmas GiveawayClosed

My kids absolutely love reading, they ask for all sort of books for Christmas. They also love reading about Christmas. They were so thrilled when we received 2 new books in the mail.

Uh-oh! It’s Christmas Eve and Santa Claus is under the weather! Can Mrs. Claus save Christmas?

***This book is so cute, and very easy to read for the little ones. It’s mainly about Santa Claus having the flu and Mrs. Claus having to come to his rescue and do everything herself, including sending the reindeer off. Although it never mentions anyone being on the sleigh as it takes off. LOL!

We also received:

It’s Christmas Eve, Have you been good? Santa’s packed up all the presents and is headed your way! With the help of a certain red-nosed reindeer.

***Living in New York, I thought this book was so fun to show the kids. I said maybe this is really the way Santa comes.  This book also references most of the popular tourist attractions in new york. Santa Flies over Times Square, Ny Public Library, Statue Of Liberty, and gets stuck on the Empire State Building, plus more fun attractions.

Both books retail for $9.99

I am pleased to be able to give a copy of these books away.

When You First Buy A Home

I haven’t owned a home yet. I am still waiting for our lives to settle permanently. My husband is in grad school, and then will move on to a post doc before he gets a permenant job. So we have been living in apartments and duplexes.

When we do decide to buy a home, these things will come into consideration.

  1. Location: We obviously want to live close to the job, where ever it may be, but also consider doing your research first. Is the neighborhood safe? Whats the crime rate? Is it near schools?  Having children, these are all important factors. I love reading the “Best Places To Raise Kids” lists, I always want to move to the best place. My kids safety is always important.
  2. Talk to neighbors, check newspapers, go to city hall, find out everything you can about the property. Previous owners, any crime their etc. You don’t want to move in and then find out that it was a meth house or something.
  3. Needs and wants:  When you are looking, you need to consider what you need and want. How many bedrooms do you really need, dishwasher? Washer and dryer hook ups etc. As a mother I know that a dishwasher and laundry hookups are a must.
  4. Mortgage: Can you afford to buy a new home, will you qualify for a loan.  Buying a house can be a really big deal and cost a lot.  It’s best to sit down and look at all your options and figure what is best, and more importantly what you can afford. For us, we will receive the Va Home loan, which will be a blessing when we buy our first home.
  5. New or fixer: We have always talked about just buying a fixer upper as a new house. It would be cheap and easy to clean up.  With that, you have to consider how much you can afford for remodeling. How much has to be done to the house for it to be really liveable and comfortable etc.

I can’t wait to buy my First home. It’s going to be one of my biggest accomplishments.

Wells Fargo Community #WFCommunity #Spon

We have been banking with Wells Fargo for a few years now. We actually started out with Wachovia, but they were bought out by Wells Fargo.   Wells Fargo has offered a lot of benefits to us as a community. One of the biggest benefits is, the Wells Fargo Community.

The Wells Fargo Community is like a thread for financial questions you need answered, from financial planning to student loans and more. It’s actually a really really useful tool. I just spent 2 hours on Wells Fargo community, and am just amazed by all the helpful answers.
For example, a person asked about being wait listed at a school. Is it worth it to wait? That is a great question and something I always wondered about until we experienced it ourselves.
Some of the threads even contain personal experiences at colleges, and why you should or should not go there. This is actually a good thing, you want to have some advice from students at the college before applying or accepting the college.
It’s more than just education planning, it’s also about banking, saving, and more. Most of the threads seem to be about education planning, but there are questions about banking and saving. Like, how to get free deposit slips? or How to add a next of kin to your account? I have been answering as many questions as I can to try and help people out, and have been learning a thing or to myself.

Wells Fargo Community has been a great resource of information for me. My husband has been in college for the last 6 years, so it’s great to find ways to save and pay off college loans. I am even finding ways to save for my children’s college education on a small budget.

Here is a informational video all about Wells Fargo Community

For more information about the Wells Fargo Community, please visit Wells Fargo Community’s site. I was selected for this opportunity as a member of Clever Girls Collective, and the content and opinions expressed here are all my own. #WFCommunity #spon
