Get Organized Now For 2011

I know everyone has resolutions and start on new years, but my Mother always told me whatever you want done in the new year do it before the New Year. “A dirty house on New Years is a dirty house all year-long”.

Organization is something we all want to have. As a blogger I get sent press releases and products and I’ll admit I let things get scattered. Here are some tips from Smead and myself to get organized in December for the New Year.

Clear The Clutter- find everything that’s lying around and the papers piled around and find a place for them. Go through your pens and throw away the ones that don’t work.

Clean Out Those File Cabinets-Recycle papers you don’t need anymore, if it’s a bank statement from 6 years ago shred it, you’ll probably never need it again.

Family Calender Have a calender by your work space for family appts, and activities. I have a BusyBodyBook and it has an individual section for each family member, so I never get lost in the 100 things on 1 day.

Get in a routine- Get in a routine now, send the kids to bed at the same time, lay clothes out the night before. Make lunches in advance or set out lunch money.

Check In With Family-Ask once a week what your family’s schedule is, has anything come up or changed. To make sure you have it written down.

Start now and get everything thing the way you want it, and you’ll already be set for the new year.

Clorox Holiday Health Sweepstakes

The holidays are always a really busy times for us moms. Cooking, shopping, decorating and so much more. You still want to make sure that you cook safely.

Clorox has provided some tips  to help out this holiday season

Food Safety

  • Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and warm water before and after touching food
  •  Be sure to sanitize all your cutting boards to prevent cross-contamination. For plastic cutting boards, first wash or rinse with liquid dishwashing detergent and water. Then soak it in a solution using 1 tablespoon of Clorox Regular-Bleach per gallon of water. Let it stand for 2 minutes, and then air dry. For a wooden cutting board, use 3 tablespoons of Clorox Regular-Bleach per gallon of water to create a sanitizing solution. Wash, wipe, or rinse with dishwashing detergent and water, then apply solution. Let it stand for 2 minutes. Rinse with a solution of 1 tablespoon of bleach per gallon of water. Do not rinse or soak overnight.
  • use disinfecting wipes or dish towels soaked in water and 1/2 cup Clorox bleach mixed to help clean up spills.
  • Clean out your fridge of food that has been sitting in there for a while, then wipe down with Clorox wipes including the bins.

Health Tips:

  • Get your family vaccinated
  • Cough into your elbows, not your hands to prevent spreading germs while shopping
  • wash your hands often and carry hand sanitizer
  • sanitize your home, including light switches, door knobs, and faucets
  • While it may be the holidays, you should still eat well, exercise and get plenty of sleep.

Right now Clorox has the Holiday Health Sweepstakes going on where 5  people will win $50 gift cards and one lucky person will win $100 gift card to use for the holidays. All you have to do is tweet a tip about how you keep your family safe during the holidays using the hashtag #CloroxHolidays. Cottonelle Flushable Wipes

With a Pop-Up Tub for single-sheet dispensing, Cottonelle Fresh Flushable Moist Wipes remove what dry toilet paper leaves behind. Cottonelle brand provides a shower-fresh feeling that leaves you confidently clean every day.

***My 5 and 4 yr old have been potty trained for a couple of years now, but they still have some trouble with wiping. I usually keep a tub of baby wipes in the bathroom to help them out, you can’t flush baby wipes though. The Cottonelle Flushable wipes are so easy to use and help out with those potty training the most. It hooks on to the wall like regular toilet paper, but gets all the stuff that toilet paper leaves behind. With kids it makes sure they are wiping clean. We really have enjoyed these and it has become a favorite amongst my potty trainers.

“I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central on behalf of the Cottonelle brand and received a sample to facilitate my candid review. In addition, I received a gift certificate to thank me for taking the time to participate.”

We live in a wealthy neighborhood(we are not), and my daughters school is one of the top rated elemenatry schools here in Long Island. I receive letters at least twice a week for some kind of donation. The first two weeks of school we had 6 fundraisers, it was crazy.

If you are one of the first 30,000 to vote, you will receive a $3 DonorsChoose.org Donation code. voting is only open until Nov. 7 so hurry.

One of my favorite videos is The video from Fort Carson Co., My husband was stationed there for a while. I know how hard it is on kids to only have one parent around and worry about the other fighting overseas.

Change Your Clock, Change Your Battery Giveaway11/20

Daylight savings time is coming up in just a little over two weeks. When you change your Clocks, it’s a good time to also change your smoke alarm battery.

Firefighters work tirelessly to help reduce the risk factors by educating their residents on the importance of having a working smoke alarm. In many communities, fire departments are able to distribute free batteries to citizens. Energizer has donated more than four million batteries to local fire departments. This year, people have an opportunity to get involved in a very simple way to help increase the donation.

When people visit the CYCCYB tab on the Energizer Bunny Facebook page, (www.facebook.com/energizerbunny), you can send a Change Your Clock Change Your Battery reminder to  friends to trigger a battery donation. In addition, people can make an online pledge to change the batteries in their smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors or develop a home escape plan online, and help increase the number of batteries the company donates this year, up to 400,000 batteries.

Did you know……

  • 96 percent of American homes have at least one smoke alarm, but 19 percent of all homes with smoke alarms do not have at least one smoke alarm that works, mostly due to missing or dead batteries. This means roughly 20.5 million homes are at risk because of non-working smoke alarms and an additional 4.5 million homes are at risk by not having smoke alarms. This prevents the U.S. from achieving the full potential of increased fire safety from smoke alarms
  •  Three-quarters of child fire fatalities under age 15 occurred in homes without working smoke alarms.
  • On average, home fires kill 500 children ages 14 and under each year.
  • Roughly half of the people who died in home fires started by children playing with fire were under five years old.

Don’t forget about your carbon monoxide alarms too.

Carbon monoxide is sometimes called the “the silent killer.” It is colorless, odorless and tasteless. The National Safety Council reports that almost 700 people die each year as a result of unintentional poisoning by gases or vapors in non-fire situations. Carbon monoxide was involved in the majority of these deaths.

We have both a fire alarm and a carbon monoxide alarm, you can never be to cautious when you are using oil heat and have kids in the house. I am a little nervous that we only have a smoke alarm upstairs and not downstairs. We always check the batteries though, and don’t keep matches or any of that in the house. My kids are sneaky.

Energizer is giving one of my readers a  First Alert smoke alarm, along with a 2-pack of 9volt Energizer  Max batteries.

To enter Leave me a comment with how often you check your smoke alarm batteries.
