Have Family Time With A Puzzle

January 29 was National Puzzle day, bringing the family together around a good puzzle. Puzzles are a great past time, and have been around for a long time. Here are some great reasons you should choose a puzzle for your next family night.(it’s educational)

  • puzzling is a challenging and thought-provoking activity.
  •  Puzzles are a great way to reinforce concentration and reasoning skills, while also promoting teamwork.
  • (For adults) puzzles might help reduce stress and provide some “exercise” for the brain.
  • (For Kids) educational and enjoyable experience that promotes social interaction.

National Puzzle Day has teamed up with Hasbro to bring you inexpensive family fun. Hasbro has a variety of puzzles for kids and adults, including their Yankee Candle Scented Puzzles. The 300-piece puzzles feature scenes of apple orchards infused with a scent of MacIntosh apples, a children’s tea party accompanied by the alluring fragrance of Clean Cotton and a scenic seaside town with the intriguing smell of Sage & Citrus. These familiar Yankee Candle fragrances are subtly released while solving the puzzles.

For the kids try cannister puzzles. They are larger puzzles pieces with toy figures of Littlest Pet shop and Transformers.  Time For us puzzles have both big pieces and little pieces, so you can do a puzzle with your little one.

***I received a Yankee Candle, President Obama, and Map game puzzle to enjoy with my family.  It’s short-lived fun, because once the puzzle is done you really don’t have much else to do(unless you have more puzzles). It’s a lot of fun though, and great learning for the kids, makes them think.

Please visit www.hasbro.com for more information, puzzles range in price from $2.99-$14.99

Keurig Platinum Brewer review

Description:Keurig’s patented single-cup brewing system lets people brew a perfect cup of gourmet coffee in less than a minute without the hassle of grinding beans, measuring coffee, handling filters or cleaning up. Keurig takes away all the guesswork from brewing a consistently great cup of coffee.

Features:

– Auto On/Off, Digital Clock, Adjustable Temperature Control and the “Set Your Favorite Cup Size” option.
– Five cup size settings including an iced coffee and travel mug setting

****This is so easy to use and not messy. It takes a while for it to warm up, but brews easily and fast. You can brew coffee, tea, hot cocoa, and so much more. Just fill up the water resivore, warm it up, place in a kcup and boom you have a single cup of coffee. My hubby drinks coffee every morning but makes way to much. and it gets poured down the drain, so this is a great option to save money and waste less.

I received these today and I was so surprised at how many flavors and brands of K cups there are. You can never go bored with the variety. They are all so delicious.

Retail:$169.95 on Keurig

My Rating:10

5 Disaster Relief Myths Explained

I know I am kindof skeptical of giving money to relief funds and charity, because you never really know where it goes.

www.worldvision.org US division is on the ground in Haiti and want to share where exactly donations go.

1.Collecting blankets, shoes and clothing is a cost-effective way to help -The cost of shipping these items from around the country – let alone the time it takes to sort, pack and ship them – is prohibitive and entails much higher cost than the value of the goods themselves. World Vision has relief supplies already stocked in disaster-prone countries as well as in strategically located warehouses around the world.  World Vision had supplies pre-positioned in Haiti in preparation for hurricane season, which allowed the agency to respond immediately to last week’s earthquake.

These supplies are designed to meet international standards for humanitarian relief and are packaged up and ready to deploy as soon as a crisis strikes. Cash donations are the best, most cost-effective way to help aid groups deliver these life-saving supplies quickly, purchase supplies close to the disaster zone when possible and replenish their stocks in preparation for future disasters.

2.If I send cash, my help won’t get there-Reputable agencies send 80 percent or more of cash donations to the disaster site; the rest is invested in monitoring, reporting and other activities that facilitate transparency and efficiency in their operations, as well as in sharing information with those who can help.  Donors have a right and a responsibility to ask aid groups how they will be using those donations, and what will be done with donations raised in excess of the need. Transparent and effective organizations will readily provide that information.

3. Volunteers are desperately needed in emergency situations-While hands-on service may feel like a better way to help in a crisis, disaster response is a highly technical and sensitive effort.  Professionals with specialized skills and overseas disaster experience should be deployed to disaster sites.  Volunteers without those skills can do more harm than good, and siphon off critical logistics and translations services.  Qualified disaster professionals ensure that help is delivered effectively, safely and efficiently.

4. Unaccompanied children should be adopted as quickly as possible to get them out of dangerous conditions-Hearing about the specific needs of children often sparks a desire to adopt children who seem to have lost their families.  However, early in a crisis, children need to be protected, but should remain in their home countries until authorities can confirm the locations of their family members and explore adoption possibilities within their own communities and cultures.  International adoption may be the best solution for some children, but it is too early to know for sure in the first weeks of a crisis.

5. People are helpless in the face of natural disasters-Even in the poorest countries like Haiti , people often reveal a great deal of inner strength and often show a resourcefulness that can save lives.  While support and aid are necessary, the Haitian people are by no means helpless.

Talking To Kids About Grief

With all the Tragedy happening in the world, my kids have started asking questions about whats going on. Questions like Why did that building collapse?, how did that baby get hurt?, and what if that happens here?     With all the news reports on Haiti, newspapers, news it’s hard for your child to not see whats going on.

I was recently contacted on behalf of World Vision US (a Christian humanitarian relief organization). Who has hundreds of staff in Haiti helping now, wanted to share 8 tips for helping you talk to your child

  • Start by listening-Find out what your kids already know. You can then respond in an age-appropriate way. The aim is not to worry them with the devastating details, but to protect them from misinformation they may have heard from friends or disturbing images they may have seen on television
  •  Provide clear, simple answers-Limit your answer to the question asked and use simple language.
  • If you don’t know the answer, admit it-If your child asks a question that you can’t answer, tell them so, and then do some research to try and help them sort it out. If they ask “Why did this have to happen?” don’t be afraid to say “I don’t know.” If you are part of a faith community, the reassurance offered there can be invaluable in helping your child sort through the awful truth that awful things happen.
  • Follow media reports or online updates privately-Young children in particular are easily traumatized, and seeing or hearing about the horrifying details of the quake are more than they can cope with. Adults, too, should make sure they are dealing with their own emotions by talking to others, so they can continue to respond well to their children’s need.
  • Concentrate on making them feel safe-When tragedies occur, children wonder if the same event could happen in their hometown. If it was an act of nature that could not be repeated in your area, tell children that. Placing themselves in the situations of victims is not all bad—it is a sign of empathy, an essential life skill, but watch for signs of excessive worrying.
  •   Give children creative outlets-Some children may not be prepared to speak about what they have heard, but may find drawing or other creative activities helpful to deal with their emotions and stress. Their drawings can be helpful starting points for conversation.
  • Model involvement and compassion- Tell your child that, as a family, you will be helping the people in Haiti by giving a donation to a reputable charity such as World Vision.
  • Give your child a chance to be involved-Being involved in the solution will help relieve some of their anxiety. Invite them to contribute to the family’s gift by giving something out of their piggy bank.

Overnight Prints review

Overnight prints offers business cards, post cards, greeting cards and flyers. I recently tried out there site for business cards.

Overnight Prints

It’s very easy to use and there is a ton of designs to choose from. They ship fast and also send you confirmation on shipping.

***My cards turned out very well, I just have to figure out how to give out 500 biz cards when I don’t attend blog events. I chose a very simple design so you don’t take attention off my information.  I went with just side borders for a design. name, email , phone, website, address. I am regretting putting my address on there because were moving in 6 months.  I am still very pleased with the way they came out. ( I would show my card, but it has my address on it something i’m not willing to release to the public. Overnight Prints has so many designs to choose from and are not that expensive.

Retail: 500 cards for $34.99
