Summer Survival Guide

School is almost out which means lots of outings with the kids. Hiking, swimming, playing on the playground, kids can always get hurt.

Pediatrician  Dr. Christine Wood, spokesperson for USANA Health Sciences has some great tips to offer parents.

Band-Aid every medicine cabinet needs band-aids, but Dr. Woods suggest Butterfly Band-aids. great for little cuts and waterproof.

Mederma for kids is great to apply to cuts and scrapes that are scarring. Says Dr. wood

Brace yourself for bug bites and bee stings, Dr. Woods suggest using a itch-stopping topical gel like children’s Benadryl anti itch gel. If your child is having a allergic reaction to a bee sting, you can give them Benadryl or look for a product containing Diphenhydramine.

If your child gets motion sickness on those long road trips, Dr . woods suggests Sea Bands over Dramamine.  Sea bands work as an acupuncture bands on the wrists minimizing motion sickness, while Dramamine causes Drowsiness.

For children who experience vomiting and diarrhea, Dr. Woods suggest using USANA Health Sciences Probiotic since it is easily packaged. You can just throw it into something your kids are eating to soothe indigestion symptoms

For small children with colds, Dr. Woods suggest Nosefrida “Snotsucker”. She says the nasal aspirator works great for clearing children’s stuffed noses.

I Think I did Pretty Good

I am not a baker, usually I burn, but with money being so tight I wanted to make my own cake for my daughter. This is the first time, I’ve ever taken a cake out of the pan. I think I did pretty good!  Oh and I only put her last name on there because we have to many letter candies.

What do you think?

Pee Wee’s Dance

My kids absolutely love Pee Wee’s Big Adventure. They laugh all the way through, well recently my kids started doing the dance that pee Wee does during the song Tequilla. I had to capture my daughter trying to do it.

Happy Birthday To My Oldest McKenzie

6 Years ago today I was in the hospital terrified about having a baby, but welcoming my baby girl into the world. I say I was terrified, because I have a lumbar shunt, which wraps around my stomach and makes it very difficult to be pregnant.

anyways…..

My beautiful baby girl arrived in the morning and we were so overjoyed!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MCKENZIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kindergarten Registration!

I can’t believe  my middle child is going to start Kindergarten.

She had to go through screenings, I’m guessing to just see where she is at and if she has any developmental problems. She did good though thankfully. I am a little nervous because she has never been to preschool or daycare, so she is a little shy. Thankfully my oldest will be at the same school next year and can walk her to class and take te bus together.

Building A Maze Through All This Snow

So here in Long island we have had a total of about 8 storms, maybe more. Our most recent was an ice storm, and let me tell you it was not fun falling on my butt three times taking out the trash.  Most of the ice has melted, but we still have piles of snow lying around that are anywhere from 3ft to 6 ft.

My kids have a friend that lives next door, and always go through the backyard to visit (we share a yard). well every time my kids went to play they would come in and there clothes would be soaked from walking through the deep snow. So we came up with the idea to make a maze connecting everyone’s house, so we didn’t have to walk through deep snow.

here is the walkway from the front to the back yard.

Here is the walkway from the neighbors to our house.

then the walkway connecting to our house, which we have our bikes on right now.

I still have a couple more walkways to make, but the kids love it and call it their little maze. We are expecting a few more days of snow in our 10 day forecast, so hopefully all this work I did wasn’t for nothing.
