i got to review three children’s DVDs that are wonderful learning resources.

Sid the Science Kid: Change Happens

In this movie Sid wants to know why things change. like his yellow banana turning brown, ice cream melting, shoes shrinking, and more. Sid and hid friends work together on some experiments and discover the effects of time, temperature and environment.

*We really like this movie and it was very informative as to why change happens. one of the common questions asked by my children everyday.   I think its a great show for introducing science to young children.

Sid hears a dog barking, and wonders if the dog id talking to him. At school he learns animals do communicate through body language and making sounds.  He also finds himself on a quest to find out why dirt is so dirty,  bees live in beehives, and ants live in anthills.

This DVD is jammed pack with exciting information about bugs, nature, animals and more. My kids got such a thrill learning about new animals and the way they communicate. Sid the Science Kid DVDs are really a great science experience for small children.

Olly Beth and Doug ignore a warning from diver doug when they decide to stay overnight on a haunted shipwreck. The friends start thinking the ship might not be haunted, but it’s still dangerous.  plus in another jam packed episode: Suzy the sea plane doesn’t listen to ranger the cowboy seahorse, because of his size. When Suzy gets tangled in the kelp forest, she learns good things can come in small packages.

* this moving is full of learning and we really enjoyed it. My kids loved being able to see under water world, and I loved all the valuable lessons it taught. learn from your mistakes,  don’t judge by a cover.  Great learning tool for my preschooler and tots.

 I’m not the biggest fan of yogurt, but its good for you and can also be tasty. So when my blog spark contacted me to try out the new Yoplait Thick & Creamy yogurt, i jumped on it.  yoplait is the only brand I’ll eat!

The new addition to the precious girls club(closed)

The precious girls club has added a new book to their collection. It’s called Precious Girls Club Operation Kindness.  Katie Bennett and the Precious Girls Club want to cheer up the sad, lonely children who are sick, and have to stay in the hospital.

They want to use their special talents to put on a puppet show, but MR. Boxer”President of the hospital” is not really interested.   With a little bit of help from her guardian angel, a club member “Lidia” and some faith, she is able to pull through and give a great show.

I really love the Precious Girls club books, they have a great positive message. and my kids love to hear all about Katie’s adventures. Plus if you know me , you know I’m a precious moments fanatic!

I was also given a mini paws plush dog. it’s so cute and cuddly.

Summer reading tips and giveaway

During the summer when school is out kids tend to get away from the reading and learning. although it’s summer vacation keeping kids on track with their reading and studies is still important. I could remember forgetting  important information in the summer that i needed for next school year.

I think it’s important no matter what time of year it is to read to your children every night at least until the age of 7, and then you can have them read to you or read together.

here are some reading tips for summer from Tim Shanahan, author of  MacMillian/McGraw-hills best selling elementary reading program-Treasures.

Ask Questions.Even if you are not reading the same books they are, talk to your children about what they are reading. Ask them questions such as what happened in the story or what might happen next, who is their favorite character, or who is the villain. This builds summarization and recall skills, and your interest helps increase their interest.

Designate a Reading Spot. Create a summer reading nook or spot in your home where your child can read. Make sure there is good light and comfortable seating and try to set aside one TV/video-game-free night per week for family reading. Reading night can be a special snack night, too. There is nothing better than reading with a big bowl of popcorn!                        

Use Resources. If your children’s school program provides materials for home activities over the summer, absolutely use them.

  Find Reading Opportunities Everywhere. If you are taking a trip this summer, send for brochures and maps and have your children read them aloud with you.

  Leverage Pop Culture. Don’t ignore the value of graphic novels or a popular series like the Twilight books or Harry Potter. These are great ways to encourage adolescents to read more.

Reading is a great way to bond with your children, and be able to share great story fun. you could even pull one of your old favorites and share it with your child. I know my children seem to love my husbands textbooks and books about animals. more factual books!

The beloved T.V. show 8 Simple Rules For Dating My Teenage Daughter season 2 came out on DVD Tuesday may 19, 2009.

this show stars two frazzled parents (John Ritter and Katey Sagal) trying to raise three teenagers in this hilarious comedy. the background on this show is, Paul hennessy is a sports writer who is prompted by his wife’s return to work to take a more active role in raising their teenagers.  he soon begins missing his job as a sports writer and begins writing a column about his struggles with children, giving advice to parents going through the same thing.

John Ritter who plays Paul Hennessy is in the first couple episodes of this DVD, but then he passed away and episode 4 and 5, they say goodbye. After that they added on two characters for the show David Spade and James Garner.  This DVD is full of laughs and cries. i always watched it on T.V.
