My Mothers Day Gift To Myself

This mothers day I don’t expect much, it just any other day in my world. This year though I did register for a class at our local public library, to make a chocolate basket.

It was so much fun and very easy to make.

The basket was completely made out of chocolate, and had yummy goodys like pretzels and oreos all dipped in chocolate, with candies.

Finally no more digging to find my clothes

This is kind of sad but true. For the past 3 years I have lived out of a duffle bag. We had a dresser but when we moved we decided to get rid of it since it was falling apart, and just never bought another one. Finally after digging in a duffle bag over and over, never finding anything i wanted, we bought a dresser.    We just bought one online and hubby put it together.

We bought a South Shore dresser from Kmart. I actually really like it, I just hope it will last.

It’s got 8 drawers and seems very sturdy.

So Lucky To Be Alive Today

Today I am try grateful, March 31, 1994 at the age of 9 I was released from the hospital.  On Feb. 19 of that year I was hit by a car and almost lost my life. I had a stroke on my right side (which affected my left side), a ripped ear, 18 fractures in my skull, broken bones in my right arm, amoung other things. I was in a coma for 2 weeks and had to have a lumbar shunt installed, which drains the fluid from my head.  My parents were told I had a 80% chance of not surviving that day.

That was probably the hardest thing I have ever gone through, because of my injuries I had to learn how to walk again, learn to talk again and sign since I had trouble talking.

Even though that was 19 years ago, I am still affected by my injuries.I still have the lumbar shunt, I still have bumps all over my head (fractures never healed right), I suffer from severe headaches, and  i still do not have full control of my left side.

So today the day I walked out of the hospital, I am very thankful for my life.

We are Learning About Women This Month

March is Woman’s History Month, and my kids have been learning all about different woman in history. One of their favorites they have both learned about is Amelia Earhart. She was the first woman to fly around the world, and the first woman to fly solo across the pacific ocean.

In Honor of Amelia Earhart my daughter dressed up like her, it is so cute.

Heading To the NY Toy Fair

This weekend I will be heading to the NY Toy Fair. This is my first year actually attending the fair, so I am a little nervous. Saturday I will be attending a preview with a toy company and will be sharing that with you all after.

Sunday is the big day the Toy fair opens, and even though it is a few days long I am only going to attend on Sunday. So I have picked out a few companies to visit.

I think my top choices are:
Hasbro
Mattel
Pillow pets
Lego

and some others just depending on how much time I have.

I know people always tell me I don’t attend enough events, and I agree. My priorities are a bit different though, as I would love to network more and connect with brands, My husband is the bread-winner. He is in grad school working on his PHD and that is my top priority to make sure he is successful in school and I can stay home with the kids. Child care is expensive and we don’t have family within 700 miles.

So as I would love to be out and about more, I have to put events on the back burner while my husband is in school. Although every once in a great while an event will be on a weekend and I can attend. LOL

Giving Back To the Community #HFExtendedFamily

The Holidays are gone but that doesn’t mean that you still can’t give back to the community.

My kids had school off yesterday for Martin Luther King day and we spent it by going through toys and setting some old toys aside to be donated to the Lupus foundation or the Breast Cancer foundation. Both have donation boxes and pick ups in our area.

Earlier this month we also sponsored a family, with the help of Pampers Diapers. It was a great experience for me, because I had all 3 of my kids in diapers at one point. So when my neighbor brought up a teacher in Queens that need diapers for her 4 younger children all in diapers, I jumped at the chance to help. I don’t remember the exact ages of her kids but know that she has 1 month old twins. So I asked Pampers if they would help and gladly accepted.

When the Pampers package arrived I was overwhelmed with joy, I actually cried.

She was so grateful and overjoyed to receive so much help!

It’s always great to give back to community and help out as much as you can.
