Makeover part 2:

We live in a small duplex, and all of our bedrooms are upstairs. To keep the kids downstairs we have all the toys in the living room, but the kids have so many toys that it can be very messy and disorganized.  We want there bedrooms to be free of toys, since it is where they sleep.   So I got this idea from my daughters preschool classroom.

Before:

Just a big mess.

Here is what it looks like now:

After:

So much better and organized. I love it, and now it’s one bin out a t a time instead of just thrown toys everywhere.

Makeover

Now that we have decided to stay in Long Island and my husband continue with his PHD studies. We are making over our living room. Everything we have ever bought furniture wise has been from a second hand store or given to us by family.  Well we bought a futon when we first moved in together, but that broke in a few months and was so uncomfortable.

So we have been saving up and now are starting the process of remodeling.  Our new furniture isn’t set to arrive for another couple of weeks. Here is what we have done so far.

We bought a 22 inch tv with VCR about 5 years ago, and the Vcr broke after a couple months( the kids sticking things in there).   It’s a big bulky tv and we really needed to upgrade.

Before:

After:

It kind of clashes with our entertainment center, but HD is so much better. We found the Westinghouse 40″ TV on sale at Target

worst part of summer migraines

Everyone always gets excited over Summer, no school, beach, warm weather etc. Me? I love all those things, but when warm weather hits there is one thing I don’t like Migraines. They are hurtful and last for hours.

When I was 9 I was hit by a car and had very bad injurys including a skull fracture. Well one big one and eighteen little ones. so bumps and lumps are noy uncommon when you touch my head.  Every summer I get migraines and they get worse if i don’t eat.  I have to eat every couple of hours to keep them away. Once I get them though it takes hours to get rid of them, and they are so bad, I can’t move my head at all.

ugh I hate summer

Do you get headaches when the weather warms up?

I was going For Crazy But I got Cute and I Love It!

My daughter is having spirit week at her school and on Wednesday it was crazy hat day. Well we don’t have any crazy hats, so I thought I would try to do a crazy hair do.

This is how it turned out

I did not get a picture of the back.

I put her hair in pigtails and then took the pigtails  at put a ponytail on top of her head.

It came out really cute and she was getting compliments all day. I even loved it, and I will be doing her hair like that again.

Switching To Half Day Kindergarten

My oldest daughter Kenzie is in Kindergarten this year, and my other daughter Alex will start this fall. They were so excited that they are going to be taking the bus together.  Unfortunately Early this year we were informed by a letter, that due to budget cuts kindergarten will be cut to half day. 1st through 4th will stay the same 9-3, but Kindergarten will have a AM and PM session so either you get 9-12 or 12:15-3.

It really makes me upset that this is happening, what could be more important than education. My daughter never attended preschool or daycare, he could never afford it. So I am just afraid that she will not be learning enough in a 3 hour period.

The school had a meeting and we received our assignments AM/PM, the school also said that extra curricular like art, p.e, music will be limited. They will have 2 periods of P.E a week and art and music will switch 1 period a week, so one week she will have art, the next week music.   As for library they were not sure how often they would get to go.

I just don’t think it is fair at all, you should have seen parents at the meeting they were angry and sad. No one was allowed to choose what session they received, so what you receive you have to figure out your work/daycare schedule. I am a stay at home mom, so to me it was not that big of a deal which session I got. Even though now I will probably never be able to attend blog events unless they are on the weekend. With the hour commute to NYC, by the time I would get there I would have to turn around and get home to meet someone on the bus.

I was secretly hoping for AM that way Kenzie could show Alex where to go and help her out. NOPE, I received PM kindergarten, I was crushed, but my girls will be coming home on the bus together.

My day is going to be jammed pack next year. between my everyday life of cleaning cooking, taking care of kids, I will be seeing a child off at the bus stop in the morning, feeding an early lunch to my other 2 children, seeing Alex off at the bus stop a little before noon, then waiting at the bus stop at 3:20 for the kids to come home. Seriously that doesn’t even give me enough time to grocery shop.  The main thing is remembering to get her to the bus stop before noon,

Anyways My real complaint is what is school without lunch, recess, and free time.

Honoring Those Fallen

My husband was in the Army from 2002-2006, and served two years in Iraq. He lost comrades in both tours, but during the second tour he lost some really good friends. One that I knew personally from him and His wife coming over to visit all the time.

SGT. Milton Monzon Jr. was on a mission with 3 other soldiers, Staff SGT. Jason W Montefering, Spc. Earnest Dallas Jr., and Ramon Villatoro Jr. when their Bradley was struck by an IED and all 4 were killed July 24, 2005.

So today I am remembering them, they were all very dear to my husband and close friends to all in the Killer troop family 3 ACR

I Have Swimsuit Confidence

I have had weight problems lately, but I am the kind of person that really doesn’t care what other people think of me. So here is my swimsuit confidence.

None of my pics came out very good but I tried!

Lands End was holding Swimsuit confidence week, but I missed out. Luckily 5 Minutes For Mom still has a contest running for a chance to win $100 dollars to Lands End for an awesome swimsuit.

Now I do not ow a Lands End swimsuit, nor did I participate and get a free one (That is my disclosure also).  The bathing suit I have is old and I am just showing my confidence and hoping to win a contest.

I love reading other bloggers posts daily. It’s great to be able to know that I can find parents going through the same parenting problems I am and get advice. If I had to choose 5 of my favorite bloggers they would be.

  • 5 Minutes For Mom–  They have a great blog and share their parenting experiences as well as work as home experiences. They are fabulous to me because they are one of the first mom blogs I found.
  • Happily Blended– Also another Brandy! She writes about her day to day life and great products. She’s fabulous because she  was one of the first bloggers to actually talk to me without judgement.
  • Mommy Goggles– I met Tanya at Blogher for a minute, but online she has a great blog, where she talks about products and her life. She is fabulous because she is not afraid to speak her mind.
  • Painter Mommy– Dawn has a personal bloga as well a design business. She has helped me so much with questions about my blog and design and is fabulous for that.
  • Metropolitan Mama- Stephanie writes about her daily life with kids, and right now is sharing her one year journey on the road. She is fabulous because she is inspiring others.

I have never really been able to talk to these bloggers outside of the computer so I don’t have to much to say.  I try to read their blogs on a daily basis and connect with them through various social media sites.

Don’t forget to enter the 50 Fabulous Wishes contest for a chance to win $1,000 to celebrate a friend with a refreshing attitude about looking and feeling fabulous. I was selected for this Tropicana Trop50 sponsorship by the Clever Girls Collective, which endorses Blog With Integrity, as I do. I received compensation to use and facilitate my post.
