Change Your Clock, Change Your Battery Giveaway11/20

Daylight savings time is coming up in just a little over two weeks. When you change your Clocks, it’s a good time to also change your smoke alarm battery.

Firefighters work tirelessly to help reduce the risk factors by educating their residents on the importance of having a working smoke alarm. In many communities, fire departments are able to distribute free batteries to citizens. Energizer has donated more than four million batteries to local fire departments. This year, people have an opportunity to get involved in a very simple way to help increase the donation.

When people visit the CYCCYB tab on the Energizer Bunny Facebook page, (www.facebook.com/energizerbunny), you can send a Change Your Clock Change Your Battery reminder to  friends to trigger a battery donation. In addition, people can make an online pledge to change the batteries in their smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors or develop a home escape plan online, and help increase the number of batteries the company donates this year, up to 400,000 batteries.

Did you know……

  • 96 percent of American homes have at least one smoke alarm, but 19 percent of all homes with smoke alarms do not have at least one smoke alarm that works, mostly due to missing or dead batteries. This means roughly 20.5 million homes are at risk because of non-working smoke alarms and an additional 4.5 million homes are at risk by not having smoke alarms. This prevents the U.S. from achieving the full potential of increased fire safety from smoke alarms
  •  Three-quarters of child fire fatalities under age 15 occurred in homes without working smoke alarms.
  • On average, home fires kill 500 children ages 14 and under each year.
  • Roughly half of the people who died in home fires started by children playing with fire were under five years old.

Don’t forget about your carbon monoxide alarms too.

Carbon monoxide is sometimes called the “the silent killer.” It is colorless, odorless and tasteless. The National Safety Council reports that almost 700 people die each year as a result of unintentional poisoning by gases or vapors in non-fire situations. Carbon monoxide was involved in the majority of these deaths.

We have both a fire alarm and a carbon monoxide alarm, you can never be to cautious when you are using oil heat and have kids in the house. I am a little nervous that we only have a smoke alarm upstairs and not downstairs. We always check the batteries though, and don’t keep matches or any of that in the house. My kids are sneaky.

Energizer is giving one of my readers a  First Alert smoke alarm, along with a 2-pack of 9volt Energizer  Max batteries.

Holiday Gift Guide 2010: Cusinart deep fryer

Product Description: Cuisinart presents a deep fryer that takes up less counter space. Designed to fry batches up to 3/4 of a pound in just 1.1 litter of oil, this is great deep fryer even for spur-of-the-moment snacks and meals. The compact design allows creative cooks to prepare fried calamari to top a salad, and moms to fry up mozzarella sticks for kids. Temperatures up to 375F and a die-cast frying bowl maintain selected oil temperatures for restaurant-quality results. Easy to use, easy to clean, and simple to store, it could make deep frying an everyday event!

**** I know frying food is not very healthy, but after living in the south it’s something hard to deter away from.  Specially since my husband introduced me to Buffalo style chicken finger subs, which are so delicious.  When you bake french fries or chicken strips in the oven it doesn’t taste the same as frying them. The Cusinart deep fryer is very small so it will fit anywhere in your kitchen.  It helps with portion sizes since it only fits 3/4 pounds of food.

Trying to Lose Weight

losing weight after having kids has not been easy for me at all. I have had 3 kids in less than 3 years and it  has taken it’s toll on my body.   Before my first child I was around 120 which is perfect for my height.

Now…..  I know a lot of women don’t reveal their weight, but I could care less if you know I am over weight. I am 5’2″ and weigh 155, so my goal is 30 pounds.

It will not be an easy journey as I get stressed out a lot with taking care of 3 kids under the age of 6, and financial stuff too.

I have cut out almost all sugars, no soda, I cut down red meat to 1 or 2 a week, exercise for 20 minutes a day.

What I am hoping for is support in the Blogosphere to help. so check in to see how my weight loss journey is going.

Holiday Gift Guide 2010: Red Rover Game

Red Rover is a memory-matching game combined with run-around play. It features an adorable electronic talking dog and 12 bones with color and number, shape, or letter. The object of the game is to collect the most bones. The game is set up by placing the 12 bones randomly around a space. The game starts when preschoolers press the Red Rover nose and he calls out which bones he wants. Preschoolers run to find the right bone and feed it to Rover, if they’re right, they keep the bone, if they’re wrong, Red Rover encourages them to go back and find the right one. Whoever helps Rover the fastest, wins.

****This game is great for preschoolers. It gets them up and moving and having fun. Plus its a good memory, color and number game.  Red Rover calls out a color or number and the kids need to go find the correct bone and feed it to Rover. who ever gets the most bones wins. My kids had a blast playing this game, and my son  even learned some more colors.  This is a fun get up and play game.
