Disney’s Up Review

Synopsis: Walt Disney Pictures and Pixar Animation Studios take moviegoers up, up and away on one of the funniest adventures of all time with their latest comedy-fantasy. Up follows the uplifting tale of 78-year-old balloon salesman Carl Fredricksen, who finally fulfills his lifelong dream of a great adventure when he ties thousands of balloons to his house and flies away to the wilds of South America. But he discovers all too late that his biggest nightmare has stowed away on the trip: an overly optimistic 8-year-old Wilderness
Explorer named Russell. Their journey to a lost world, where they encounter some strange, exotic and surprising characters, is filled with hilarity, emotion and wildly imaginative adventure.

****This is a funny movie and very different from a lot of Disney movies I have seen.  My children really enjoyed the characters, specially Russell and Dug. All I kept hearing was Mommy a talking doggie!  I really like the character of Carl, he is a typical old man. My favorite part is when the house first takes off, and he realizes Russell is on the porch. Russell says can I please come in, Carl says no and slams the door!  Ha classic!

Holiday Gift Guide:Funky Kidz Music CD Review

614%2BzyMGqcL__SL500_AA240_

From Site: This musical recording is a compilation of classic children’s songs, familiar to both kids today and parents of yesteryear.  The songs are meant to invoke happy memories of childhood for everyone, while exposing children to the funky, high-instrumentation sound that oozes out of the Crescent City.

As a funky mother of two, I was disappointed by the offerings of children’s music and set out to expose my kids to a variety of musical genres.  From the time they were in my belly, I played everything from hard rock to classical ballads.  My sons, Jake, 9 (assistant producer) and Aidan, 5, took a love to New Orleans funk and so the concept was born… take kids songs and just make them funky.

The songs on the CD Are:

  1. You’ve Got A Friend In Me – Bonerama
  2. Hokey Pokey – Big Sam’s Funky Nation
  3. Zip A Dee Doo Dah –Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk
  4. Yellow Submarine – Papa Grows Funk
  5. If I Only Had A Brain – Paul Sanchez
  6. He’s Got the Whole World In His Hands – George Porter Jr.
  7. Somewhere Over the Rainbow – Theresa Andersson
  8. Froggy Went A Courtin – The Radiators
  9. This Land is Your Land – Walter “Wolfman” Washington and the Roadmasters
  10. When I See An Elephant Fly – Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes
  11. This Little Light of Mine – Ingrid Lucia
  12. Garden Song – Amanda Shaw and the Cute Guys

****I wasn’t really into the music, but I’m from the west coast and have never really heard this form of genre. My husband thought it was great and was really pleased. It’s a great way to introduce children to the sounds of New Orleans.   My children liked it after the first couple times it played. I think It’s a great CD for introducing genres of music to your children.

Roasted Pepper salami Bites:

  • For The Bites:
  • 12 pieces of Genoa salami
  • 1 jar red bell pepper,roughly chopped
  • 6 ounces quesco fresco cheese, crumbled
  • For the Chimichurri Dressing
  • 3 scallions roughly chopped
  • 1/2 cup cilantro leaves, loosely packed
  • 1/4 cup oregano leaves, loosely packed
  • 1 jalapeno, seeds and ribs removed, roughly chopped
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • juice of 1/2 lemon
  • salt, to taste

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Place salami slices on a cooling rack set on top of a baking sheet and place in the oven for 20 to 25 minutes, until edges curl up and salami is crispy but not burned. Remove from oven and set aside.

Meanwhile make the Chimichurri Dressing: combine all ingredients in a food processor and puree until smooth. Set aside.

To assemble Salami Bites, top each salami crisp with a rounded spoonful of chopped peppers and a tablespoon of crumbled queso fresco. Drizzle a tablespoon of Chimichurri Dressing over the top of each and serve.

Grilled Corn and Black Bean Salsa:

  • 2 ears of corn, husked
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • salt
  • 1 small red onion, finely diced
  • 1 small jalapeno, ribs and seeds removed and finely diced
  • 1 (15.5 ounce) can black beans, drained and rinsed
  • juice of 1 lime
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 bag tortilla chips

For Pomegranate Margarita (4 servings):

  • 2 tablespoons lime juice, (about 2 limes), plus lime wedges
  • 1/2 cup white tequila
  • 1/4 cup triple sec (recommended: Cointreau)
  • 1/2 cup pomegranate juice
  • 1/2 cup Habanero Simple Syrup or to taste, recipe follows

For Habanero Simple Syrup:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 habanero chili

Salsa Preparation: Preheat a grill pan. Brush corn with 1 tablespoon of oil and season with salt. Place on grill and cook until lightly browned on all sides, about 8 minutes. Remove from grill and using a VIVA® paper towel, hold the ear of corn upright in a bowl and cut the kernels from the cob. Add remaining ingredients to the bowl and stir to combine. Serve with tortilla chips.

Margarita Preparation: Pour lime juice, tequila, triple sec, pomegranate juice and simple syrup into a small ice-filled pitcher. Stir well. Pour into ice filled glasses and garnish with a lime wedge.

Habanero Syrup Preparation: Place sugar and water in a small saucepan and stir to combine. Poke holes in the habanero and add to the mixture. Bring to a gentle boil over medium-high heat. Reduce heat and simmer until sugar is completely dissolved and syrup is slightly thickened, about 3 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool. Refrigerate until ready to use.

Help my room needs a Makeover

My room is plain and boring. It’s actually a room/office. I wish I had the resources to make it over myself. My comforter has a whole in it, and has to be dry cleaned only, so i’m sure it’s dirty.  My walls are bare.

New Adventures of Old Christine

The New Adventures of Old Christine airs Wednesdays 8/7c on CBS.

In the episode airing this week Ritchie (Christine’s son) is asked to the school dance by the most popular girl in school!  Christine is thrilled and pulls out all the stops to make it an impressive first date.  She rents the couple a limo and Ritchie wears a tux to the dance.  She even gloats about her son’s new popularity to the more popular ‘meanie’ moms. When Christine overhears that Richie’s date is about to break it off, she tries to bribe her with $100 to stay together, which only makes the situation worse, much worse.

When you think about it, being a parent you want to do everything you can to make your child happy. Even go to extreme measures.

The only thing I can think of that would be considered extreme is I’m very overprotective of my children. If they go out of my sight for one second I am on pins and needles.

Watch a new episode every week.

Growing up my father didn’t give out

too much advice, but the best I could remember is to follow your heart. If you set your mind and heart to something it will get accomplished. Great advice.
