Perseverance: True voices of cancer survivors

Perseverance: True Voices of Cancer Survivors

Can you imagine being in high school or college and suddenly learning you have cancer?  You thought you had a lifetime ahead of you and the whole world at your feet, but suddenly you’re told… maybe not.  How would you cope?

That’s the question the twenty young people in this book had to answer when they were diagnosed with childhood cancer.  Perseverance tells of their trials and tribulations, of their triumphs, and of the unique challenges that day-to-day college life brings them.  Perseverance also provides an intimate look at the lives and journeys of these young people and how their courage and strength have affected the lives of others.

Twenty unique and fascinating stories, with one common theme: perseverance. The stories of these heroes demonstrate how anyone can learn to live with energy and passion, regardless of the obstacles to be faced, and will remind us all that now is everything.

I found this book to be very encouraging, and heartfelt. That if someone that young can fight so hard and still achieve goals anyone with cancer can. This book was a tear jerk-er, but well worth it to hear all the amazing stories.

this book is set to be released on 8/18/09 at a price of 24.99(hardcover)  you can also find additional info at www.carolynrubendtein.com

can also be found on amazon for a price of 16.99

Peta practical guide to animal rights

Everyday in laboratories, on factory farms, behind the big top and in industries across America. animals are subject to horrible treatment. This book will show you hundreds of simple ways to stop cruelty.

The author Ingrid Newkirk gives tips like

*how to eat healthy and compassionately

*how to adopt dogs rather than puppy mills

*how to get companies and legislators to listen to you.

*how to select cruelty free products and clothes.

*how to choose amusements that protect rather than exploit animals.

I am not a vegetarian, but i am trying to stay away from red meat. i absolutely can not stand it when i see someone hurting an animal, it’ s just so wrong. this book is a very good insight for tips on helping protect animals, and also in choosing products that help support animals,by not being tested on animals.

You can find this on amazon

Someone i love is sick review

Someone I Love is Sick is a customizable tool to use when talking with children ages 2-6 years old about a parent or grandparent who has cancer. Pages can be selected to address the family’s specific situation including diagnosis, treatment, hospitalization, recurrence and, if need be, end of life.

It addresses the unique learning capabilities and needs of very young children. They are sensitive to changes in their families, but their capacity for understanding and coping with these changes is limited by their attention span, language level, understanding of time sequencing and retention abilities.

Many young children learn well from being told or read stories, but the story must respect the specific developmental abilities of this age group. At the current time, there are no materials developed to help them understand and cope with the reality of a parent or grandparent with cancer. For a story to be most effective, it should be designed to be specific to that family, that child and that cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Someone I Love is Sickhas been developed in such a way that it can be adapted by parents, guardians or health care professionals to be used in many situations involving a parent or grandparent with cancer. The pages are loose-leaf, pre-printed pages of the many realities of cancer in the family, all at a pre-school level, with instructions for how to select the appropriate pages. Guidelines are provided so that parents or guardians using Someone I Love is Sick have the tools and the autonomy to help their own children.

I found this book to be genuine, and touching. my daughter is starting to ask about death since her grandmother died last year. although she go from cancer, the book still gives a good definition of what to expect for children. I was afraid my daughter wasn’t emotionally stable for this book, it made me cry. she did okay with it though.

I can’t even enjoy outdoors

We just moved to a new apt. and we have a heavily wooded area right next to us. I mean literaaly, we live in the end townhouse, and you walk outside it’s two steps to 10 steps to a “forest”. i decided to get some leaves off our walkway and back patio. i also did some racking on the outside of our patio, to keep spiders away.(i have never seen so many big disgusting spiders in my life til we moved here). i love it here, it’s beautiful and nice.

this is the thanks i get for trying to clean up
