the kid in me 2

I have three kids and it’s easy for me to have fun with them. I am a big kid at heart. I love a zoo that really brings the kid out in me, getting to see animals and being outdoors. It’s very fascinating. I take my kids there all the time, just to feel young again and be energized.

Chuck E Cheese and the arcade are a definitly must to me. there are so many great games that bring the kid out in me, driving a race car, or winning a stuffed animal. Oh and the park going on the swings is so much fun.

The fair, now i haven’t been there in a couple years, the rides especially the bumper cars and ferris wheel. It makes me just feel free and very relaxed. It’s so much fun, the cotton candy and playing the games. All combined together, It makes you the happiest person in the world . Laughing and getting to be my self, without having worries is the best part of the kid in me. ( i am a mother though so worries do happen a lot.)

My childhood was a blur growing up my parents were never around. So anything i can do to feel like a kid again, you can bet your bottom dollar i’m there!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dropps laundry pacs

dropps_new.jpgI was sent some sample packs of dropps laundry packs to review. I have to say they worked great for as many stains my kids put in there clothes, it got them out.   Dropps is the greener way to go, there motto is conservation, convienance, results. Thats exactly what it does!

No more big plastic bottles to lug around. They come in little packs, saving water, plastic and cardboard. Plus it takes fewer trucks to ship, saving fuel( whicj is a big deal being gas is so darn exspensive)                dropps are enzyme free, npe free, phosphate free, bio-degradable. Plus they are also safe for septic tanks.

They have two different packs to choose from  fresh scent and scent + dye free.   They both work great, but i prefer the dye free and thats only because my kids have very sensitive skin. (excess)  I would recommend this product to everyone.

*Moms this is perfect for you. I know what it’s like to a baby in one hand, a load of laundry in the other, plus a two pound bottle of detergent to carry to a laundry mat. here’s your answer dropps . so much more convienant, than having a full bottle that spills everywhere.

Cute Mom Moment

Now I know I have posted this before, but i am doing it again. 5 minutes for mom wants me to share a cute story or photo to try and win a gator flash drive. So I am sharing a cute mom moment

Now this is not a story about me so much, but it is a cute story and a mommy moment too.

sorry the pic is so bad it was taken through glass.  this is Grandma Hope, she is a 35 year old gorilla from the N.C. zoo in Asheboro.

When we went to visit the zoo, the gorillas got up close and personnal with us, especially my kids. Grandma Hope had her baby taken away, and is very fond of children in the zoo. My two girls were playing through the glass with her. She kept giving me awkward looks and nudging toward my stroller. I thought maybe she knew that i had my 3 month old son in there. I took him out and Grandma Hope opened her legs put some straw together and made a nest for my son. It was the cutest mommy moment ever. It was fascinating how even gorillas have the same intuitions and feelings towards babys that we humans have.

5 minutes for mom is holding a mothers day giveaway where you could win a $1000.00!!!!!!!  Now for those who know me which most of you don’t. This is something my family definitely needs. Being a mother to me is about love and compassion. you have to be willing to open your life fully and sacrifice everything for your children.

I would not be who i am today without my children. The biggest reason being a mother is so special to me is…… having the opportunity. I was told as a little girl that i had a 20% chance of a successful pregnancy. I thank god for giving me the opportunity.

None of these pictures where poses. except for the top one of me with my 3. thats professional.

portrait of a mother

when i think about a mom the portrait i imagine in my head is one that sacrifices all. when you decide to become a mother everything should be put aside and you should focus on you child/ children.

pic of me and my kids

i loved playing with dolls as a kid and always pictured myself having 12 kids like my grandmother.  when i was nine those dreams where struck down by a accident. i was told it would be almost impossible to have kids. i had a 20% chance a pregnancy would make it past the first trimester.  when i was 15 i got a niece and another and then a nephew so i was happy with that.  everyone kept telling what a good mother i would be.

i felt a empty feeling inside and tried for years to get pregnant. nothing. well i just gave up hope. when i got married in 2004 i found out a couple weeks later i was pregnant. i sacrificed everything. quit school and work just to make sure i could take good enough care of myself. i was fortunate enough to have a beautiful little girl. i had my miracle. then i had two more. i had complications with every one but i was blessed.

now growing up i was very distant from my mother. she was my best friend at times and i hated her at others. i’m sure to expect that from my kids when they get older. but now that i’m grown and have my own family, i’ve been whisked away from my mother for 4 years. i live over 2000miles away.  it’s ao hard because my mother always tried t be there for me and i wish i could be there for her. she is going through so much. she has mrsa (flesh eating disease) and may possibly even have breast cancer.

the portrait of a mother i see. is one that is willing to sacrifice their life, for there children. no matter what you’ll always be a mother. even if you have to put your career on hold, make the little things count. don’t miss a milestone or birthday because you’ll regret it later.

Microsoft is celebrating motherhood and mother’s day with a “Portraits of Mom” campaign that runs from April 19-May 11, 2008. go on over and enter!   don’t forget to stop by parent bloggers. to check out all the portraits of a mom participants.

*okay so if some of this is out of order. i tried! i got very emotional writing this!

Understanding Staph Infections
Staphylococcus aureus, commonly known as “staph,” is a bacterium that can live on the skin and inside the nose of some healthy people. These people are said to be “colonized” or carriers, but they are not considered to be ill with an infection. If a colonized person gets a cut on his or her skin, the bacteria can cause skin and soft tissue infections, such as cellulitis, abscesses, impetigo, folliculitis, and furunculosis. People who are not colonized but have a cut or scrape exposed to staph can also become infected.

Understanding MRSA and CA-MRSA
Excessive use of penicillin antibiotics over the years has led to the development of stronger strains of bacteria that are no longer killed by penicillin-type antibiotics. Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a strain of staph bacteria resistant to penicillin and standard penicillin-related antibiotics. MRSA causes the same types of infections that ordinary staph causes. Though MRSA was previously known for being an infection found only in ill people in hospitals, it is now showing up in the general, healthy population. This type of staph infection, known as community-acquired or community-associated methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (CA-MRSA), can be carried by healthy adults and children who do not have any symptoms. These carriers can get a skin or soft tissue infection with CA-MRSA, or non-carriers might get infected from exposure to staph from another person. These people, if they develop a skin or soft tissue infection, will need to be treated with an antibiotic other than a standard penicillin antibiotic

Signs and Symptoms of MRSA
It is important to note that it is rare for any staph infection to become life threatening in a healthy person. While resistant to penicillin and penicillin-related antibiotics, most CA-MRSA infection treatment successfully utilizes common alternative antibiotics, such as trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, clindamycin, tetracycline, and few others. If your doctor prescribes antibiotics, be sure to take the full course of treatment.

What are some symptoms of a staph skin infection?

  • Red bump that may be pus filled (sometimes mistaken for a spider bite)
  • Warmth
  • Pain
  • Swollen, red, tender skin lesions

If your doctor diagnoses you with a staph infection and you continue to experience these symptoms for more than a couple days, the infection may be a CA-MRSA infection. Signs that you may have a CA-MRSA infection include having the above symptoms coupled with:

  • Little to no improvement with antibiotics after 2–3 days
  • Rapid spread of the infection
  • A previous infection with CA-MRSA

Because CA-MRSA can be passed to others, it is important to follow these prevention tips:

  • As a general rule, always maintain good hand-washing habits. This means washing with an antibacterial soap for at least 20 seconds while rubbing your hands together.
  • Do not squeeze or attempt to drain any sore.
  • Keep any wound covered and clean until it has fully healed.
  • Avoid contact with others’ wounds or bandages.
  • Do not share personal items such as towels, razors, athletic equipment, sheets, clothes, etc.
  • If you or a household member has a wound, wash your laundry in hot, soapy water, with bleach if possible, and dry these items in a hot dryer.
